Motoring Through the Pain

Patient Story
As a child, I was always tired and had mysterious pains. By the time I was into my 20s, I was unable to work. Eventually, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Doctors recommended walking, which I started doing. After a while, I did not need a cane any longer. I always wanted my own Pontiac muscle car. Before I became disabled, I had a pickup truck in bad shape that was hard for me to get in and out of. My friends bought me a nice used 1987 Pontiac 6000. This car started my road to recovery. Last year I started fixing the rust and repainted it. This was probably the most painful summer of my life! Some days I could barely move and even got very ill. Sometimes I just lay in bed and cried. But I didn’t want to give up on the car or my dream. (I had also started doing light work from home for a web hosting company.) I still have constant pain and am easily tired. Even though my car runs great, I still go for walks and I plan more work on the car. I hope to show it at a gathering late summer 2005.
