Advocacy
The National Fibromyalgia Association, which serves as the voice for an estimated 10 million people in the United States who suffer from fibromyalgia, is committed to working with the healthcare professional (HCP) community and third-party payers to provide the best possible treatment options for people affected by fibromyalgia. This section offers updates on the many challenges currently facing HCPs and their patients, such as the denial of medication and other treatment options, as well as efforts designed to improve access and delivery of care to patients.
Issues pertinent to HCPs in fibromyalgia include:
- Lack of compensation for chronic care management
- High cost of health insurance
- Insurance reimbursement issues
- Lack of compensation for referrals to HCPs within patient’s healthcare management team
- High cost of medication
- Lack of accountability for cost of care by HCPs and patients
